This is the interview Mila presented for me on Nov. 10th concerning the coming third book in the series Heirs Of the Dragon's Eye; I thought I'd repost it on my site for those who might not have seen it.

Interviewer: Your Highness, thank you for agreeing to this interview and answering a few questions for our readers.

HRH Satrina: Thank you for the opportunity to introduce the third book in the series Heirs Of The Dragon’s Eye by Sultry Summers.

Interviewer: First, can you tell us when the book will be available?

Satrina: The release date not set, yet.

Interviewer: Can you give the readers an idea of how you fit into the story?

Satrina: Only briefly. Satrina smiles slyly. I was left behind on one of the worlds Myng the Cruel conquered.

Interviewer: I see, that is an intriguing statement, usually when Myng conquered a world, a woman in your high position would be added to his harem, not an enviable position. With your obvious beauty, how did you avoid his attentions?

Satrina: Only by being far too young at the time. I was six when he ravaged my planet.

Interviewer: I see. Can you give our readers a brief insight into the events of being left behind and what transpired afterwards?

Satrina: Yes, I am ruler of my world and have been since Myng conquered it. At the age of six I became the only heir. My parents took great care to hide my older brother. I don’t know where, they didn’t tell me. Not because they didn’t trust me but for my protection from Myng’s mental powers. My Nanny was taking me to safety when she and I were trapped, she was killed. I escaped for a short time and managed to kill Myng’s Chief Commander, at that time, and four women guarding my mother who he took captive. My father had been killed. I didn’t see his death but in my soul I was painfully aware he was gone. My mother was taken onboard Myng’s ship, into his harem and died – shortly afterward… I can’t talk about that… here.

Interviewer: This must have terribly traumatic for a child of six, how did you survive such a shock?

Satrina: I am the daughter of royalty. I was taught to control such emotions until the proper time. For years I didn’t know what happened to my brother nor did he know what happened to me. This is one of the untold mysteries of the first two books that will be revealed in the third.

Brought before Myng, I expected to be executed. Only six, I was aware of the way things worked and was amazed when he announced I would be left in the care of his mother.

Interviewer: Were you relieved?

Satrina: Certainly not! Lady Jiuli was known to be as cruel as her son – after all, she raised Myng. Myng declared me the ruler of my world with Lady Jiuli as regent. The rest of my story will be chronicled in the third book of Heirs Of The Dragon’s Eyes. I would suggest if a reader hasn’t read the first two books; Star TyGer and Revenge – Immortal, they do so.

Interviewer: Thank you Lady Satrina for that short look at the early years of your life. With Lady Jiuli as your ‘mother’ I look forward to reading book three in the series Heirs Of The Dragon’s Eyes. Has it been titled?

Satrina: Satrina blushes, tentatively, yes, but I’ll wait to release that too.

This was a great story to write, especially the love scenes on the beaches of the Aegean Sea. I love mythology and grew up losing myself in the tales from all the old masters. Now its a wonderful feeling to have others read my new versions and views of the old stories. I would like to comment on the hopeful future of my series Heir Of The Dragon's Eyes the series. Book Three is beginning to take form and shape and promises to carry on with the ulimate evil in the galaxy with hotter, more deversified sex and some twists and turns. Characters who have sworn to fight evil and are lured into the dangers of that side of potenticial powers and others who are evil and strive to come back to the light of of truth. As we all do, we fight the temptations before us and must chose the paths we take. In book two much room is allowed for these changes a great many questions to be answered and what seems like lasting true love on both sides of evil and light change in book three. Characters mentioned in both one and two return to show up in unexpected ways and reshape events. Myng is gone - so is his evil mother Jiuli but their evil has been pass on and that will now be the fight in where it appears and in control of who. The floor is currently open for YOUR thoughts as readers though my plot lines is pretty set in-put is welcome.

I greatly admire a strong warrior for good who takes a stand and defends it, male or female however I also like to play 'Devil's advocate' and see that side as well.

PROMO - POSTING, BLOGS - AND CHATS

As an author I've learned one thing and I'm sure this isn't news to any other author - Promotion - Promotion - Promotion! Like duh! What's the most effective way? Well there is Posting and this works really well but it can be very time in-effective. Time spent getting either a new and of course eye catching blurb together or just the right excerpt and then getting that cover picture to 'stick' to your e-mail. Blogs are great too but have the same time eating problems PLUS you then have to post that you've posted. LOL. Chats work - that is a fact but again time and posting is required. Either way the more complicated form of promotion become less time effective and takes away from your writing time. What is an author to do? I haven't got clue either - but I do know Promo is a necessity one we can't do without. I learned this the hard way and without intent. For a period of several months last year I wasn't in a situation where I could actually devote time to promo myself and sales dropped like a rock in a very still stream. I'm back in the grove now and things are looking up thank heavens. During that time, I was still able to write and did accomplish some work though now comes the 'proofing' part, which, in itself is really harder than actually writing. I find some of the business has evolved a bit, the market of course has change. New trends, erotica going hotter and of course the "tween" market stronger. I don't think I'll ever be able to write in first person. HATE IT! Always have since a teacher when I was in school (elementary) force the class to read a horrid book written in first person. Oh well!!!
My real next step is to master video trailers - Oh the computer is capable and once you get hooked up with a photo bank it helps - but finding good looking 'hunks' that fit the right character in your books - now that is difficult. I'm considering scanning them on - of course one must be careful of copyrights. Still I need a couple of good pictures for my last two books out.
Enough said - the bottom line is Promotion is and will remain the biggest hurtle to an author - outside of writing the always feared synopsis. Master these two need skills and the rest is easy - well less difficult.
Any advice is welcomed - Please leave a comment - I'll accept all comments gladly.

REVENGE -IMMORTAL was released on Saturday from Melange Books. This is book two in the HEIRS OF THE DRAGON'S EYES series, book three is in the works. If you've read Star TyGer book One, you're ready to move forward in the lives of Star TyGer, Sapphire, Lapura, SyVar and of course Myng now in the next dimension after being "killed" and passing on. His wife still on this plane and pregnant on Earth with their heir. Myton, Myng's commander and the woman, Urtera, he saved from the evil Conqueror are united. In book two Myng's mother Jiuli and he are reunited in the fourth dimension, she is many times more evil than her son. As Myng, Solana, and Jiuli plan for their Revenge - Myng's heir is born and on the other worlds the children of the other character are also conceived, born and grow to adulthood. So the next story begins and follows the first. As the young heirs of the first confrontation grown to adults they get into all the mischief of young ones growing up. Each coming into the knowledge of their own abilites and the paths their lives will take, the threat of Myng's heir looms stronger by the day but fate throws them all curves. The Book Of Life Over Death ever at hand for wisdom and the king/ring - the Dragon's Eyes sits well on Solana's finger waiting to be passed to Myng's heir. However even that isn't set - yet and from his still viable ship, the Destructor, Myng and his evil mother, Jiuli monitors the growth of his heir on Earth while preparing what is left of the strange entity Destructor the ship, to again be a space worthy craft. Inspiration and Spring - Same Thing

Went for a ride this morning, just up the road and I notice the mountain side is covered with all sorts of flowers, small, blue and purple wild pansies, yellow daffodils, pink flower I have no idea what they are but they are beautiful. Apple, peach and cherry trees are in bloom and of course the dogwoods. The mountains, that a month ago were brown and tired looking, now look green or a vibrant, expectant color of red, buds getting ready to turn green. There are waterfalls everywhere and the water is COLD! Yes, this is my first full spring up in the mountains and I know for those of you who have lived up here or in any of the mountainous states most or all of your lives this is normal for you, for me, I was born in West Virginia but lived in Florida since I was three, so you can understand this is really an experience for me. There is spring in Florida, the ocean temperature warms up so you can go in it to swim, and for a short period it is pleasant - up until about mid June, then its like taking a hot bath, that is after you burn your feet getting across the hot sand. The air temperature goes from a comfortable mid 70's to an extremely humid 85 plus, and within a month you are sweating it out in the 90's with the a/c unit set at about 75 degrees. If you turn it down any lower, there goes your pay check out the window. And of course - now you get ready for hurricane season and hope one doesn't hit your area. The last five years I lived down there we were hit 3 times in as many years and two more near misses - OH and that's a direct hit, with the eye going over, not counting the storms' really hitting but not the eye. So you get the worst just not the direct hit of the "calm" center. Now you suffer through six to eight months of extreme heat, humidity and high electric bills. Thank you I'll take these mountains.

However - you have to figure, if mother nature wants you - she'll get you where ever you are. So the secret is to go where you are the most comfortable. I could ride my bicycle in Florida easier, I'm not Lance Armstrong and these mountains are used to train the riders for the Tour de France - I'll have to work up to them. Florida is pancake flat. Then again, the mountains are great to hike in. Hiking in Florida is a three water bottle endeavor and that's for an hours walk.

There is ONE thing I do miss, those launches from Kennedy Space Center - probably the only thing - I did have a good view of them - I didn't miss many. I always wished the astronauts safe flights and a good journey home. Now I have to do it while watching a TV launch.

For now I find a different type of inspiration here, more toward the Fae, Wizards and witches, Florida is more - well those stories are still on the burner and cooking I've a good memory for them not to worry and no reason to go back down there for a long while.

One thing here - I don't think I'll get over the wind in the trees - WOW and I thought the hurricane winds were something - they have mini ones here - it is really spectacular and then there are the winters here - those are fabulous - I just have to learn not to slip in the snow and fall on my a......

Tsunami's and Earthquakes - The New Madrid River Tsunami

Seeing the news coverage on the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunamis is horrendous. Possibly because Japan is such a modern country and the coverage more live breaking we are able to stay more currently informed. This one is also affecting such a large part of our planet makes and with the Nuclear Power Plants at risk makes it more terrifying. While I now live in the mountains of the Blue Ridge we are not immune to such an event. Living in Florida most of my life, you are somewhat aware a Tsunami was a possibility but there was more danger from a hurricane, been there - did that – three times.

Now, in the mountains we are considered in a ‘yellow zone’ for earthquakes – a possibility but nowhere near as critical as the New Madrid. The New Madrid fault runs North and South along the Mississippi and is centered in Missouri. It is considered a ‘red zone’, the same as Japan though, of course, Japan has earthquakes with a much greater frequency.

The Blue Ridge mountains are laced with fault lines and the New Madrid is only a few hundred miles west of here.

This is the fault line that in 1811 and 1812 that caused four earthquakes with estimated magnitudes between 7.5 and 8.0 that struck over Christmas and New Years and the scientists now say threw the Mississippi River out of its banks and caused it to flow backwards.

At that time damage occurred as far away as Washington D.C. and Charleston, S.C. For the entire story check out the link, it will definitely get your attention.

It frightens me to think how much worse it would be now, IF an earthquake or earthquakes of these intensities should occur again. So many major cities along this fault line were built without knowledge of its existence and unlike Japan none of the buildings were built with an earthquake in mind. Instead of an ocean Tsunami, we'd have a river Tsunami and think about the cities along that long, wide river! Actually the Japanese word "Tsunami" means 'baywave'.

Possibly now would be a good time for us, the people in this country to address the possible event on an earthquake right here. Scientists are warning this fault line is endanger of once again ‘slipping’ and causing an event.

While we assist Japan all we can – we should begin to look at the dangers here, not only the serious danger in California but the danger in heart of the United States. Stop and think for a moment what an earth quake or a series of them like those in 1811 and 1812 would be like today along the New Madrid and the cities that now line the Mississippi River.

PARDON MY REVERIE - BUT...

To an author I think there are many milestones, when you get your first contract, that first really good review and anytime your books see print. Though I've had books in print before Star TyGer and the sequel should be as well - seeing a book in print and holding it in your hand is always a 'trip'. Planet Of The Veils is in print and I've enjoyed signing copies for those who have been close enough to have them signed or to those who have won them. I hope to get to do more of that with Star TyGer. The first book I signed was years ago and a vanity publish (blush) before I knew anything about writing or publishing. I had written the book as a way of honoring my mother and it sold well enough I actually made a small profit. However nothing, certianly not money, could top the feeling I got when, on vacation I walked into a truck stop and the sales lady behind the counter was reading a copy. My daughter, at that time thirteen, said "Mom, she's reading your book!" The woman heard her and flipped out. I got to sign the book for her and she was so thrilled. Not as much as I was and it will live in my mind as one of my fondest memories. I'm sure all authors have that one special memory and if they haven't had it yet, I hope they do soon. Its special - like when you get that first prom dress, or the first gift of really nice jewelry from a special guy - well maybe that doesn't quite explain it. I'll admit I cried for awhile after we left - OH I was happy but kind of overcome. Funny, it was a rainy day, we were camping and had stopped at the Truck Stop because they had a laundry. It was one of the best family vacations we've taken. From it came a story that I hope to publish in the next year or so. Because its a full length novel, science fiction/fantasy and possibly will go into two or three sequels I've taken my time with it. A story very dear to me. But the story that I published first is now out of print and waiting in its little computer file to be dusted off and sent to a new publisher - and YES this time it will get a good edit, something it didn't get that first time - and sorely needed. Still, the reviews were good and the plot sound. Pardon my reverie - ah but its raining outside, spring is in the air and we now live near where we camped that day. I can look out my office windows into the mountains and high trees and just a few hundred feet away there is a fast running stream... God - I love these mountains!

He arrives and their attraction is powerful - yet Sapphire is hesitant to go with the alien lord - only her fear of the evil lord close behind him and the erotic attraction to Star TyGer convinces her. Now the true battle begins for Earth, the galaxy and control of Sapphire, her powers and her heart.

Does what WE write affect our reader's relationships?

Does what we write affect our reader's relationships? This is a question that first occurred to me before I wrote to be published. Back in those days, before computers were in every home, I would write stories for my Mom and one or two of my closest friends.

At that time a close friend's husband said to me, "I can always tell what part of a book my wife is reading, whether it was something I wrote or something she had bought."

When I asked him why he said that he went on to explain, "When the characters were at odds with each other, his wife would always find some reason to be a odds with him - always."

So I watched, and since we often read the same books I found it to be true. Now I'll admit they didn't have the most stable relationship, however, since then I've noticed this happens in other relationships as well.

When we as authors compose 'love stories' do we consider our readers might judge their romances by the ones we write? This is another area to keep in mind though I doubt it will affect our characters. After all who wants a wimpy werewolf, vampire or can conceive of a warrior without those bulging pecks?

Few authors write heroes as the skinny kid down the block with heavy glasses and a really poor complexion. Sure there have been some but generally these underwritten heroes turn out to have a secret cave where they change into a costume of black, bullet proof fabric, a full cowling mask and boots that allow him to walk up walls, OR, they slip into the now antiquated phone booth to emerge in a red and blue outfit complete with cape and their here-to-fore ability to fly - emerges. And - not to forget - he could possibly be a wizzard.

Our heroes make it difficult for the average good looking guy to measure up, not to mention the geeky guy who would be a considerate and caring partner in life. But that's why we write the stories we do - an ESCAPE for our readers, as well as our own imaginations. I plead guilty!

As a writer we are responsible to our readers to provide a good, entrancing plot. A good love story, adventure, thriller or whatever genre we write. If we produce a weak story we certainly won't sell many books. Besides who wants to waste time on such things, I don't. I doubt any author does. And we certainly aren't responsible for the condition of a couples' relationship - having no way of knowing what is going on in a persons' life. But its food for thought for us all - something the other authors might have noticed or thought of and would like to comment on.

I was fortunate today - CJ England placed a blog from me on her Blog page. She is a great lady and a wonderful writer. She's given me some great tips and timely encouragement. I admire her stamina being able to do the traveling she does and still keep up with her writing. WOW how wonderful to be so active. I would like to thank her for the space and exposure. I'm enjoying writing up here in the mountains of North Carolina. The fall leaf change is beginning to peak, the weather is getting chilly and it is wonderful. All the chip-munks are out getting the last bit of anything they can eat to fatten up and we've seen flocks of Turkeys and several deer. Of course there are the usual groundhogs and other forest wildlife - no bears around - yet. We have owls that keep us company at night.I can get over the size of the moths, butterflys and spiders here. I thought the insects were large down in heat land but they are huge here. It really is a rainforest and I love it. I won't even start on the birds there are so many and the colors are like the leafs. Many and vibrant.

Well back to writing for now - I have several pieces coming but I keep having some major distractions - not as many as down south, these are good distractions.

TURNING POINTS

Turning points, life is full of them and its only taken me forever to recognize that. I've finally climbed over a major one, a move from a life long home in Florida (yea the over-heat state) to North Carolina the land of mountains, cool running streams, endless mountian forests where my overactive imagination just went into hyper-drive. The climate here is so much more productive. Now in defense of Florida I must say I did enjoy most of the time I lived there, not just the last - Oh, four or five years, since the hurricanes payed us a visit. I never realized how much one of those storms changes things. Not only do they destroy existing things, houses, cars, landscapes - lives but the entire attitude of the area changed. It was amazing. I can really empathize with the victums of Katrina. Now to look forward, I do have a date when Star TyGer will be released thanks to the patience and continued support of Midnight Showcase - Star TyGer is contracted to be released in March of 2011, followed by the Sequel - Revenge - Immortal in April of 2011. Due to this move and some horrific events that came with it - I was delayed in completing them. For now - I'm also polishing my next submissions of a very exiciting and dramtic erotic piece of Science Fiction/Fantasy tentatively titled Blood Of The Ruby Thrones - and Atlantis Vortex is next on my list for several fans who have remained loyal and requested that book on several ocassions. My thanks to them.

Never really left - but I AM BACK FOR SURE

Hi all

Sultry is back and soon I'll be releasing more of my fantasies, romances and science-fiction to let you escape with me into my rather - far away imagination. I'd love to hear for you all so please feel free to post on the blog.

Star TyGer is finished and going to Midnight Showcase within the next few days - hopefully they'll still be as happy with it and the sequel as they were when they contracted it.

Mae Powers has been great about allowing me a little more time to get it finished because of our move.

We are in North Carolina now - up in the glorious mountains, getting ready for fall and looking forward to winter. I plan to write a great deal and when not doing that - I'm going to sew and make jewelry and - yes - yes I'm going to get my oils out and paint. A long ignored talent we live in a community where it is very encouraged and there are a lot of artists.

Actually is a great place to live. They have festivals almost every weekend, motorcycle gatherings and bicycle roadies everywhere here that train for the big races like the Tour' de' France. Actually Lance Armstrong at times trains in this general area. This ara is just plain COOL and in the winter it is cool in more ways than one. Our daughter - still in collage has already found four 5 caret rubies in the road that leads up the mountain to our driveway. They look like they recently have broken from the geode and just need a quick polish to be set. Beautiful stones. I plan to go digging in the local stream less than a mile away. We also had a bat sneak into the house through a hole next to the rocked fire place. We carefully caught him and put him back outside. Cute little fellow, didn't even attempt to bite (we did wear heavy gloves)

We've also made Blackberry and Peach Perseves - Yummy!For now that's about it. Look for more information soon.

Science Fiction and Other ODDysseys: Why do I read more male SF writers?
I hope I've clicked on the right link to comment - I tend to be much like you, I'm not into Tupperware parties, or tea parties either. At a mixed party I gravitate toward the men and their conversations finding a more rewarding venue of discussion there than talking about the latest starlet who hasn't been eating or rather what's she has been purging. I also write Science Fiction/Fantasy - I do write with an erotic flare. I don't drop my plots and allow the sex to take over! However more and more my books which are more Science Fiction/Fantasy are becoming less erotic, more toward romance as a tool and the former becoming the more important genre of the book. Yes being a woman, I love the romance and yes sex is great but without the PLOT being driven by a plot not by the sex (if its the other way around) I feel its more porn with a twist, small as it generally is in such cases. I am very pleased to have found your blog, now I know I'm not alone in this big, new opening genre where a woman's imagination can and IS coming up to speed with those we have read and loved since childhood namely H.G. Wells, Julies Verne and of course the numerous and more recent authors which I won't bore everyone by naming. With the exception of a couple of reaches into contemporary that I've done, all my books are either Science Fiction or Fantasy based and yes, all have erotic scenes when I write as Sultry Summers. Longer works which I hope to bring out - upon polishing, under my own name, Sheila Eskew will be romance and more Science Fiction and Fantasy.
As an author who has, in the passed also reviewed, I've given books low scores when they've been dubbed as Sci/fi or Fantasy and the author has spent so many pages on the sex the characters couldn't possibly have had time for anything else yet the book did have the Sci/fi elements and a promising plot which was horrible butchered because the author became too focused on sex. One in particular (which will remain unnamed) comes to mind, started well, had great promise but so many protocols for new planetary exploration were broken, or not addressed to explain why and in the end - well there wasn't one, the characters were too busy with other matters and the plot forgotten. I keep hoping for some true Science Fiction from women authors. We are beginning to see it and yes with those sex and romance elements included - I think it can be done and done right.
To sum it up, I love your blog's lead in post and agree with you completely. I was so glad to open you post and find this link.

Normally I don't review movies. I absolutely loved the new Star Trek movie and thought J. J. Abrams did a wonderful job as did all the actors on the movie. I very much look forward to the NEXT one already contracted. However, tonight I had the most wonderful cinema treat - I saw Avatar in 3D! IF you hadn't planned to see this movie at the theaters - I encourage you to do so! Not only are the special effects worth it but the plot and acting are excellent. I really hope to see it again - even though, in 3D it does cost a little more and in these times that hurts. This movie is an adventure into another world - duh, but in 3D you really feel like you are a part of it. Talk about SHOW instead of tell, this movie does that and so much more. Each of the main characters, and that includes the bad guys, you feel their side - even when you don't like them. It was a great experience. On the regular "Big Screen" it would still be good, even great, but 3D makes it, well - something - MORE!

We are all having a hard time getting reviews, and in all fairness it is understandable. The reviewers are hard at work. There are a record number of books to be reviewed and people can only read so fast and give an accurate and good review. I know - I've been there. So in the light of that, we must be patient and when they can get to them I have faith they will. It isn't easy - really it isn't even if you are an avid read who can read two a week then do the review. Just remember what book reports were like in school and then compaire that to now and wanting to do a fair and professional report. But sales are a kind of review too. I am so excited ! This was such a fun book to write, lots of action, lots of erotic fun and then there is the damsel in distress who has to be rescued. One who is fully capable of rescuing herself except the sheer numbers of captures have her bond and imprisoned in an electronic prison. A woman general who is out to ransom her for mineral rights on her father's land but first she want a few hours of her own pleasure from the innocent maid. And of course, a handsome Lord who can't get the little spit fire named Blaze out of his head no matter how many of the Casino's pleasure women he spends the nights with. Of course there a little more to it - that woman general - she wants the handsome Lord in her bed too. Keeps looking at him like he's her dinner and he doesn't take that too well especially when he learns that mineral she wants, well, it will endanger his world. Matters just get stickier from there - so take a gamble, you usually do when you go to a Casino and one in outer space - the stakes are high at Casino - Star Shine.

DARN - Pisca and air shor

I HAD A WONDERFULL air show loaded up - but because I changed the album on pisca back to private after I had loaded the air show, they wouldn't hold it on the blog. These were my daughter's pictures and to leave them "share" on the album put them up for public use which she really didn't want to do. She was pleased to let them be on the blog for viewing but not to be used as she may be selling them - She after all holds copyright. So I'll see what I can do about getting a few of them up soon.

Kennedy Space Center Air Show Slideshow

Finally - I got the slide show of the Kennedy Space Center's Airshow, featuring the Navy's BLUE ANGELS up. These slides were taken by my daughter, Jessica, with her Cannon 8mpx and she then put a slide show together using some of the photos, out of over a thousand, she took that day. What a SHOW! I swear at times it was almost like being INSIDE of one of the fabulous aircraft. This slide show when viewed on the television screen is even more impressive. e-book piracy

This is my first official RANT!
I have no patience with piracy of any kind - with the exception of in the flowery fiction of a romance novel! E-book piracy or that of any type of artist created material is not to be tolerated and as authors we must find a way to stop it or at the very least fight against it. I do not have answers - if I did I would put them into action. I do however agree with Charlee's well written article one http://bittenbybooks.com/?p=3151 She say it all so very well. This latest one on esnips I think is one of the most blatant ones I've seen. This person actual gloats that she is costing us money. How ridiculous and in this economy too! The only thing I can think of is to e-mail each one of her "friends" and let them know what they are doing is wrong and how badly it affects the people who are writing the very books they enjoy so much. This is really a very weak thing to do but unless esnips removes this person's site I don't know what else we can do unless there is a legal action to be taken as a group??? Possibly if enough e-mails cram their boxes they'll get the picture.
